Tossed To and Fro

waves 2

Ephesians 4:14 NIV

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”

I am constantly amazed at the cunning and deceptive methods that are used to move us away from the realities of truth. It doesn’t matter what aspect of reality or truth that you look at, be it the wonders of our universe, morality (right and wrong}, the origin of life itself, the credibility of the Bible, or the historical reality of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection, to name but a few, for every rational perspective that is grounded in common sense, research and reason, there are an abundance of opposing viewpoints that counteract any implication that order, design or intent are present and that sheer undirected chance is the only possible reality and obviously, therefore, must prevail.

Origin of Life

No one, ever, has been able to create reproductive life from material non-living elements. It is widely recognized that major scientific problems exist with all naturalistic origin of life scenarios.  This is made clear in the conclusions of many leading origin-of-life researchers.  A major aspect of the abiogenesis question is “What is the minimum number of parts necessary for an autotrophic free living organism to live, and could these parts assemble by naturalistic means?”  Research shows that at the lowest level this number is in the multimillions, producing an irreducible level of complexity that cannot be bridged by any known natural means. So what’s the answer, well science just tells us that it happened. They can’t tell us how, they can’t show us how, we just have to believe them, take their word for it, as it were. Could life possibly have been created by a supernatural creator? Nope, not possible, has to be a natural non-directed process that just happened by chance. And if you think otherwise, you’re really being foolish. Disregard any look into the probability factors, with sufficient time, anything can happen, look we’re here. End of discussion.

The Universe Was Created Out of Nothing

Science tells us that our universe was created out of nothing, Boom – time, space, matter and energy was just suddenly created during the “Big Bang”. Most scientists now agree, they can’t explain what caused it, it just happened. Considering that time, space, matter and energy was created out of nothing, this would lead the curious mind to suppose that nothing doesn’t cause nothing, so a cause would be logical and the cause would have to be external of our time, space, matter and energy (outside of the box so to speak). Nope, this universe and other universes just appear, it happens. Can they show us “other universes”, nope, not possible, we live in this one, just take their word for it. We’re here so the other universes must be there. To suggest that there could be an external supernatural first cause would infer that the supernatural could be involved and we can’t go there. Don’t forget, the vast majority of scientists don’t believe in a supernatural possibility. Disregard those scientists who believe that a external supernatural first cause creator could indeed be responsible. Besides they’re in the minority and they aren’t really scientists. End of discussion.

The Universe is Fine Tuned to Support Life

We’re talking about razor edge upon razor edge upon razor edge (many repeats) of precisely defined limits that permit carbon based life as we know it. According to Carl Sagan, the universe (cosmos) “is all that is or ever was or ever will be.” However, the idea that the universe is all is not a scientific fact, but an assumption based upon materialistic naturalism. Since Carl Sagan’s death in 1996, new discoveries in physics and cosmology bring into questions Sagan’s assumption about the universe. Evidence shows that the constants of physics have been finely tuned to a degree not possible through human engineering. Five of the many more finely tuned numbers are included in the table below.

The appearance that the universe was designed to support life on earth is overwhelming. Secular scientists have observed that for physical life to be possible in the universe, many characteristics must take on specific values. In the secular scientific world, this circumstance of apparent fine-tuning in the universe is not disputed, and is referred to as “The Anthropic Principle.” Atheistic scientists have offered several unconvincing rationalizations for this having occurred without the involvement of a Divine Mind, but given the intricacy of the interrelationships between various features in the universe, the indication of divine “fine tuning” seems incontrovertible.

Teleological Argument – Mathematical Impossibility without a Designer

The Teleological Argument reflects one of three possibilities for the existence of this incredible fine-tuning: law, chance or design. Scientists have puzzled over it for years and have found no natural laws that can account for it. The odds against such a theory ever being discovered seem insurmountable. Even Stephen Hawking, who was originally a believer in a “Theory of Everything” that could possibly explain the fine-tuning as necessary by law, after considering Gцdel’s Theorem concluded that one was not obtainable. He states: “Some people will be very disappointed if there is not an ultimate theory, that can be formulated as a finite number of principles. I used to belong to that camp, but I have changed my mind.”(1)

Since the threshold of mathematical impossibility is 1 in 10 to the 50th power, and the odds of this fine-tuning coming into existence by chance are far, far beyond that, we can rule out chance. Only a transcendent Creator makes sense of this unbelievably complex order in the universe considering that there is no plausible physical reason why these constants and quantities should have the values that they do. Reflecting on this, the once-agnostic physicist P.C.W. Davies comments, “Through my scientific work I have come to believe more and more strongly that the physical universe is put together with an ingenuity so astonishing that I cannot accept it merely as a brute fact.”(2) Likewise, British Astrophysicist Sir Frederick Hoyle remarks, “A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with physics.”(3) Robert Jastrow, the head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, refers to this as “the most powerful evidence for the existence of God ever to come out of science.”(4)

Does it sound plausible to consider a supernatural first cause? You’d think so wouldn’t you but not so, naturalistic scientists don’t buy into external supernatural first cause possibilities, so once again, nothing to really discuss, just happened, end of discussion.

We could go on with where did the code in DNA originate from, or the uniqueness of our solar system but as previously indicated, we just got lucky, sheer chance smiled on us, we got a lucky roll. Nothing out of the ordinary when you consider the vastness of the universe. And those responses can seem plausible as long as you don’t take the time to actually look at what we’re dealing with and the improbabilities start adding up.

Don’t forget about the reliability of the Bible and the historical evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Romans 1:19-21 NIV “since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.  For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

Is the Discussion Closed?

Do we need to be tossed to and fro? Is there evidence for God’s Creation, God’s Revelation, God’s validation of His Son Jesus Christ? Obviously there is, and the evidence is very strong, but as in all things, you have to be honestly inquiring and honestly willing to look at the totality of witnesses that we have been given. If you subscribe to a naturalistic world view, it will colour your perspective on just about everything. Conversely, if you are willing to look at both sides of the coin, honestly examine the evidence and most importantly, take Jesus at His Word, a whole different reality awaits you.

Revelation 3:20 NIV “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

Hah, love how you narrowed down their logic to, “Just take their word for it.” “End of discussion.” That’s, ultimately, the best they have. As you ended: “Worthy is the Lamb!” Good job, Bruce.

Everyone,or at least science, wants to play god…….They just aren’t very good at it.

Its incredible to think of the design that points to the Creator
