I just finished reading through the Epistle or Letter to the Hebrews again, only this time I was using the Classic Amplified Bible translation. It was a timely selection of Scripture to be reading because of all the turmoil that we are seeing taking place in the world today and in particular with regard to many of the words and actions of President Trump. No, I’m not going to turn this into a political post, I’m just indicating that I’m having a difficult time.
It’s not hard to take the words contained in the Letter to the Hebrews and apply them to our own situation right now. The writer of Hebrews was probably addressing this letter to Jewish Christians in Palestine or in Rome so the focus of Hebrews is on the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ as the Revealer and Mediator of God’s grace.
“Keep your eyes and hearts on Jesus” could be the summary statement. And even though I’m not Jewish, the writer literally takes us through the Old Testament and showcases the Prophets, the Law and the Tabernacle or dwelling place of God on earth, which all point to Jesus and the spiritual realities, so this is a lifting message, a timely message, for the times that we are currently going through.
There are so many verses within Hebrews that grab our hearts, I’d have to quote the better part of Hebrews if I was to select the verses that I wanted to bring to your attention, but for brevity’s sake, I will limit the selected verses to but a few.
Hebrews 1:2-3 AMPC
2 [But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order].
3 He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high,
Hebrews 9:15 AMPC
[Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant), so that those who are called and offered it may receive the fulfillment of the promised everlasting inheritance—since a death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement.
Hebrews 9:24 AMPC
For Christ (the Messiah) has not entered into a sanctuary made with [human] hands, only a copy and pattern and type of the true one, but [He has entered] into heaven itself, now to appear in the [very] presence of God on our behalf.
Hebrews 9:28 AMPC
Even so it is that Christ, having been offered to take upon Himself and bear as a burden the sins of many once and once for all, will appear a second time, not to carry any burden of sin nor to deal with sin, but to bring to full salvation those who are [eagerly, constantly, and patiently] waiting for and expecting Him.
Hebrews 10:16-22 AMPC
16 This is the agreement (testament, covenant) that I will set up and conclude with them after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their hearts, and I will inscribe them on their minds (on their inmost thoughts and understanding),
17 He then goes on to say, And their sins and their lawbreaking I will remember no more.
18 Now where there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreaking], there is no longer any offering made to atone for sin.
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have full freedom and confidence to enter into the [Holy of] Holies [by the power and virtue] in the blood of Jesus,
20 By this fresh (new) and living way which He initiated and dedicated and opened for us through the separating curtain (veil of the Holy of Holies), that is, through His flesh,
21 And since we have [such] a great and wonderful and noble Priest [Who rules] over the house of God,
22 Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and our bodies cleansed with pure water.
No it isn’t easy living in these times and it probably isn’t going to get any easier. But we do have God’s Word, and we can enter into His presence and we can trust Him, rely on Him and have faith in Him.
One more verse from outside of Hebrews:
Romans 8:38-39 NIV
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!
