I Don’t Know All That Much

praying

I’m 73 years old, you’d think I’d have accumulated a fair bit of spiritual knowledge by now, but that’s not true. Matter of fact, the older I get, the more I have come to understand and appreciate what a real relationship with our Lord is. And the long and the short of it is, for far too much of my life, I knew very little at all.

John 15:5 NIV “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

We think we’re so smart and we don’t even understand the reality that is all around us.

Who really understands our own motives and what makes us do the things we do and say the things we say? And it’s only when we earnestly try to follow the commandments of our Lord that we come to realize how far away we are.

These aren’t just words, this is spiritual reality:

He is our knowledge.

He is our guide and shepherd.

He is our King.

He is our strength.

He is our glory.

He is our redeemer and savior.

He is our heart’s content.

He is our peace.

He is our joy.

He is our praise.

He is our hope.

The more that I see our heavenly Father through Jesus for who He is, through His Word, through His patience, through His mercy, the more I come to terms with my own deficiencies, the more I come to really comprehend my own dependency and need for Him, in everything.

John 14:6 NIVJesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

I don’t care what some people might say about my declaration of dependency, I’m way beyond that now. For those of us who have really asked Him into our hearts, He hears us. He lives in you and He lives in me. God the Father is reality, Jesus the Son of God is reality and His Holy Spirit is reality. Here, today, right now. It matters not where you are, it matters not what you’ve done, it matters not how deep the valley you are in. Jesus is ready to do for you what you in yourself cannot do.

And if you’ve never asked God to take over, it can start today. You don’t need fancy words, just give Him your heart and mean it, and He’ll take care of the rest. Doors will open that you didn’t know existed. Grace will lift you to hills that you’ve never seen. Mercy will encompass you like a warm blanket.

Step by step, day by day, moving toward fellowship with Him.

Revelation 3:20 NIV Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!
