Three Ultimate Questions

questions

There are, to my way of thinking, ultimately three questions that every person, realistically needs to sooner or later deal with.

  • Is there a Creator of all that we see?
  • Has the Creator spoken to us?
  • Do I really want to know the answers to the first two questions?

Is There a Creator of All That We See?

There are only two possible answers for the first question, yes or no. One could of course, leave the first question open ended and say “maybe” but that would be subject to answering the third question, because if your answer is “maybe”, then you would have to decide as to whether you really want to find a definitive answer, if it is possible to do so. Ultimately that would mean carefully examining the evidence, be it pro or con, so as to come to a reasoned definitive answer.

The world as we know it and the wisdom that has and is being learned, provides us with two responses to the first question.

The first answer is that there is no Creator, that everything that we see just happened by chance and there is no ultimate cause. This would apply to our own planet, all of the various life forms on it and the entire universe that we are part of. The Theory of Evolution attempts to validate the “by chance” or no directed intelligent cause response.

The second answer to the first question is that it is not possible for all that we see to just have happened by chance and that would indicate that there is an intelligent directed cause, whom we may call the Intelligent Creator. If we find order and design that shows extreme intelligence and purpose that defies naturalistic probabilities, then the answer to the first question has to be yes. Personally, I think what we are discovering about DNA and the staggering complexity and processes involved within replicating cells, blows that response out of the water. The Theory of Evolution has never addressed the origin of carbon based life, nor can it, because living matter cannot and never has been replicated from non-living matter. The so called “simple cell” that somehow naturally evolved, is now known to be staggering in it’s complexity. Mindless non-living matter cannot feasibly or within the laws of probability, produce ordered and purposeful complexity that amazes our intelligent minds. Intelligent coding within DNA has to have an intelligent source.

Has the Creator Spoken To Us?

The second question pertaining to has God or the Creator spoken to us can be daunting because of all the numerous religions that are currently practiced in our world. This link provides an brief comparison between Christianity and some other world religions. Key to the differences between Christianity and all other religions is Jesus Christ, who literally rose again after three days, from the dead, as He said He would. No other religion has a leader that rose from the dead, not one. Ultimately one would have to investigate the scriptures that Jesus taught from, contemplate on the statements that Jesus made and investigate the evidence that validates His resurrection. The fact that Christianity is the largest religion in the world is not without good reason.

The Deciding Factor

The third question pertaining to “do you really want to know the answers to the first two questions”, is in my mind, the deciding factor. There is clearly, more than ample evidence, that there is an intelligent Creator and that Jesus Christ is the prominent historical religious figure out of all the world’s history. The real question has and always has been, do you want to take the time to actually investigate the claims that Jesus made and try to comprehend the truths that Jesus communicated to us?

Many people say they believe in God but don’t believe in religion. Many people think that they are basically good people and when they die they think that they will go to heaven. And many people don’t want to know much more than they currently know, which is in most cases, almost nothing, about what Jesus said and why He gave His life for us, so that we might be at one with God.

Our lives are too busy, we don’t need the complications that “religion” might impose on us, we don’t need someone telling us what we can and cannot do, are just some of the many reasons given for not looking further into the question of God and what He has communicated to us. The list of excuses is long but basically they all say the same thing, I’m satisfied with what I think I know and I don’t need God’s intrusion in my life.

I’m not saying that the questions are simplistic, they’re not. It will take considerable time, effort and soul searching to come to a definitive conclusion but considering the ramifications of ignoring one of life’s ultimate questions, please don’t wave it aside because of indifference.

I’ll close this post with a quote from C.S. Lewis, who stated in his book entitled “The Great Divorce” that “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.” All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. Those who knock it is opened. ”

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!
