Do You Know What This Means?

Jesus appears

Acts 1:1-3 NIV  “ In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”

Do you ever wonder what words were exchanged between the Apostles when Jesus appeared before them numerous times during those 40 days? I woke up with this very thought on my mind early this morning. “Do you know what this means!”

I have no way of knowing if in fact those words were spoken by one Apostle to another but I’m pretty sure these words had to have been said by one of them. Had I been there, for sure, I would have said it. Seeing Jesus, after His resurrection, literally changed everything. When you take into consideration all that Jesus confirmed and taught before He was crucified and died on the cross, when you take into consideration all the healings and miracles He performed and how He walked on water and commanded the weather to be calm, when you consider how He foretold what would happen and then, true to His word, He did indeed rise again from the dead, victorious over death, nothing, absolutely nothing, ever remained the same again.

No one has ever been crucified on a cross, horribly tortured to death in the manner that He was, with a spear trust in Him (John 19:34) to ensure He was in fact dead and then buried for three days and then come back to life again.

No one, ever, no one except Jesus.

And what does the resurrection of Jesus mean?

It means that every word that Jesus spoke has demonstrated authority.
It means that every command that He gave us is indeed a command.
It means that His sacrifice and message of deliverance and forgiveness is true.
It means that we can see in Jesus the thoughts and ways of the Father.
It means that God our Father does extend His love to us only through His Son.
It means that the spiritual reality is of more importance than the physical.
It means that our bodies do have a spirit and this spirit does live on after death.
It means that every promise that He gave us can be relied upon.
It means that we can indeed see and still be blind.
It means that we can indeed hear and still be deaf.
It means that we can be physically alive but spiritually dead.
It means that we must be born again into the spiritually reality of God’s Kingdom.
It means that the promise of eternal life through faith and trust in Jesus is real.
It means that God’s plan of redemption and the Judgement is real.
It means that Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, is in fact, the only begotten Son of God.

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!

    • Can’t get that picture of you smiling out of my head! Likewise to you and yours Mandy. I had another example yesterday of God stepping in and giving me strength when I seriously doubted that I would have the energy and stamina to complete some pretty heavy moving prep tasks. It simply is unreal! For when I am weak, then am I strong. Amazing. You have yourself a very blessed Sunday!

      • Ditto with regard to the moving and the strength that only God can give. I was thinking about you this morning, and I was wondering how your move was going. We have been moved in 11 days now. Everything, pretty much, is all unpacked, put away or hung up where it is supposed to go, and we have completed all of our business arrangements, too, with the utilities and with our rent, etc. So, I think we are ready to get into a normal or new routine now. How about you? Where are you in your moving process? Yes, the Lord gives strength beyond measure when we need it, doesn’t he? I know he has for me with this move. Blessings to you! Praying for you for continued strength.

      • Hi Sue, we just got moved in yesterday so there are boxes everywhere. It was a long day but I started it with prayer and we made it. Wouldn’t want to do two of these in a row! I was up early at five in the morning because I still had some last minute packing to do but by eight o’clock, when the movers got here, all was done. That was definitely an answer to prayer! Thank you so much for thinking of us and please keep those prayers coming in, trust me, I need them! Grace and blessings!

      • Bruce, I am so hoping this is my last move. Getting close to 70 now and I definitely feel it. I pray for you to have the strength you need to get unpacked and resettled in your new surroundings.

  2. It’s curious, though I know it is the Holy Spirit, but last night before bed as I was praying for many and meditating on the Lord AND His miracles, rising from the tomb after three days WAS foremost on my mind. As we tend to do, I tried to imagine, Him being laid out in that tomb and then the surprise, the astonishment three days later when He appeared and all the thoughts that MUST have went through the minds of the disciples!

We ARE today, His disciples, I don’t believe our thinking has changed that much. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit can we even BEGIN to grasp the significance! And to think about His three days preaching to the captives. I imagine the enemy said all the things you hear in the world today by those that reject the truth and yet, Lord of Lords and King of Kings wrestled (probably just reached out and took) the keys to death and the grave and overcame them by the SAME Spirit that can AND will quicken our own mortal bodies because of the FACT of the Resurrection!!

If that doesn’t make the heart of a true Christian leap and stir then the term Christian is loosely applied!!! What an amazing and astonishing miracle that will happen again to all who truly believe and follow!! Great message, brother Bruce and leading of the Holy Spirit in timing!!
