Spiritual – Physical Realms

Hebrews 4:14-16 NASB

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

I have tasted of the spiritual realm, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, in my mind and heart, that the spiritual realm is a reality. That is my testimony at a personal level, which I have previously touched on in some other limited posts. And that which I have tasted, correlates with the reality of God as is revealed within the Holy Scriptures, the Bible. That includes the holiness of God and my sinfulness and His indescribable love for us plus the limited power that the ruler of darkness currently has.

There are many witnesses to the reality of the spiritual realm throughout the Old Testament where a Holy and righteous God is revealed. Divine revelation and His interventions are expounded upon throughout. And then of course, we have Jesus, where time after time, Jesus speaks of the reality of the spiritual realm and demonstrates His control over our physical world.

Jesus rebukes our self centered thinking.
Jesus heals.
Jesus demonstrates His dominion over nature.
Jesus exercises His dominion over the ruler of darkness.
Jesus rises from the dead.

Jesus tells us that God is spirit (John 4:24).
Jesus tells us that His Kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36).
Jesus
tells us the absolute need to be reborn of the Spirit of God (John 3:7).

And why was that rebirth of our spirit by God’s spirit a necessity?

This may be a little simplistic but this is what I see, from reading through the Scriptures.

We are told in Genesis that when God originally created mankind, He created us in His image (Genesis 1:27). That means He created us as a spirit in or with a physical body, And that spirit in mankind, in that physical body, was at one with our Creator. We’re talking about total trust, total reliance, with emphasis focused on our spiritual union with God, our Creator. But that changed, the trust and reliance was broken and in essence, mankind became the Captain of his own spirit and the emphasis switched from the spiritual oneness with God, to our own physical needs, governed or driven by our own will. In essence, mankind became our own god and the spiritual oneness with God, in spirit, was broken.

That’s where you and I all were before we were born again. We were the Captains of our own spirit and our physical bodies basically dictated where and what we would do. Jesus said that our spirit was willing but the flesh was weak (Matthew 26:41). Our spirits were created to be in union with our Creator and Jesus indicates that our spirits are willing to return there, where they belong, in oneness with God, but because we are weak in giving into our flesh, our bodies, we too easily fall into temptation and our words, thoughts and deeds are not holy. In short, because of our own weaknesses, we cannot, in and of ourselves alone, while in these bodies, which are subject to following the self centred desires of the flesh, be in union with God in our spirits.

God is Spirit and is Holy. Broken mankind focuses on physical and is not holy.

Try reading through the Old Testament again with this reality in mind. What divine truths are continually reinforced?

What does the creation of the Nation of Israel point to?
What does The Law point to?
What does the Tabernacle and Temple point to?
What does the Sacrifices and Festivals point to?
What do the Prophets point to?
What do the Psalms point to?
What does the coming of the Redeemer/Messiah point to?

And then look throughout the New Testament. These are just three of many:

Romans 5:12-15 NASB

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned— for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

1 Corinthians 15:45 NASB
“So also it is written, “The first
man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

1 Corinthians 15:20-21 NASB
“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.”

And just so there is no misunderstanding on the significance of what Jesus was to accomplish, on our behalf, on the cross, for us sinners, Jesus clarified the following just prior to His crucification:

John 14:6 NASB

Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Why only through Jesus? Because only Jesus, the Son of God, who was without sin, only Jesus died on the cross for our sins and because Jesus, and Jesus alone, rose again from the dead, as proof of who He was and what He had accomplished.

And where is Jesus now?

Hebrews 4:14-16 NASB

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Jesus has passed through the heavens, He is in the spiritual realm, acting as our High Priest, so that we may draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

But He has not left us alone, these words He also spoke just before His crucification:

John 14:18-24 NASB

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

Two different realms, but a promise, from God the Father, via God the Son, from one realm, to another. This is the testimony of Jesus. This is the testimony of our faith in Him.

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!

  1. I Hate the term. Realm.
Its mentioned wrongly in 5 places in 4 in Ephesians and once in Luke. It take Christianity and makes it a type of witchcraft.
Generally unbelieving Christians seeking proof end up abandoning the faith when they cant call fire from heaven or raise the dead or heal the sick with a swing of their spiritual wand.

So they go off in this Mystic ramble of casting down spirits from heaven. And they know in the back of their mind its trash. But they will do it not understanding the scripture because they miss appropriate the meaning of words.

Pulling down of strong holds is about peoples entrenched arguments. Not trolls and gnomes floating in the sky shooting laser thoughts down on to Christians.

While we sit in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, at no time have I ever floated off, and at no time have I ever been in heaven. Unfortunately poor comprehension and poor translation causes a whole industry of fake Christian effort that produces nothing.

      • places works. I also do not like using Jewish terms. I speak English. There is a whole industry around the spiritualistic or mystic representation of spiritual meaning God centred things.

What that boils down to is, a whole religion and actions without God. People start casting out spirits they do not know are in anyone, they start saying Christians have evil spirits on them, they start saying they can command God to do this or that. God is not in any of it. The same goes for those who will start yelling spirits out of people who actually do nothing other than make themselves appear stronger when actually they are just wind bags and God is not in it. Shout it out doesn’t work.
The attempt to perform magic and to make things appear magical is the issue. This Christian thing is about a relationship with God restored by Himself dying for our sins, not about mysticism. Unfortunately the Pentecostal church generally is to blame for these flare ups of beliefs including things like the word of faith movement by Kenneth Copland and others. I consider it hate speech toward God and a plot to destroy Christians under the umbrella of being more in tune with the spirit.

There is no Brownsville or vineyard movement of God. There is no holy spirit bar tender, no revival of any sort with casting down spirits and a list of other things. No gold flakes falling from heaven, no devils falling out of the sky or strong holds of mystic beings cut down.

The topic is Huge, and the damage extensive. Realms is just one of the words of many used in the mystic Christian dogma. Not saying its what you do or what road you are on, but its a type of dog whistle to that very stuff.

      • I understand what you are saying, I think I may articulate it a little differently. I have written extensively against the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) movement. Do a search on my blog. Many many posts. Sorry if I got your dander up. Blessings.
