In Case You Missed It : My Peace I Give To You…

peace

John 14:27 NIV Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

How does the world give us peace? Most of us know pretty well how that works, we hear something or see something that gives us hope or confidence in a particular goal or objective that we’d like to see come to pass and then our hope and confidence is dashed against the rocks. Jesus don’t work that way.

And what is God’s peace? God’s peace comes by taking God at His word. Knowing that His purposes will be accomplished, in spite of what we see that might indicate otherwise. God’s peace comes with trusting Him and obeying the leading of the Holy Spirit within our lives. We all have a tendency to look down the road and envision ourselves having accomplished some noteworthy and yet, so often, God has a habit of bringing us back to where we are now rather than where we picture ourselves going. He may give us a vision of where He wants to take us but that journey starts at the Start Line, not at the Finish Line. It is He that brings our journey to completion, it is He that guides our steps along the way.

The 14th Chapter of John is one of the most beautiful chapters of God’s Word in the Bible. In essence, it’s the summary of our hope, it’s the summation of our faith and it’s the basis by which we are difference from the world.

Jesus knows the fears that we face. He understands how fear and uncertainty can affect our whole being, He fully appreciates how fears can unsettle us and cause us to think about changing course. Jesus faced His own fears in the Garden of Gethsemane, fears that caused Him to sweat blood.

In John 14 Jesus points us to Himself.

“You believe in God, believe also in me”, He says.

Jesus never lies. Jesus never says anything that He doesn’t actually mean. When Jesus tells us something, we can count on it. Our faith in Him and what He tells us will NOT be disappointed.

I am the way and the truth and the life.” He says.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” He says.

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” He says.

“Because I live, you also will live.” He says.

“I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” He says.

“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” He says.

I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.” He says.

The prince of this world has indeed come and we see his works all around us. But, as Jesus said, the prince of this world has no hold over Jesus and because he has no hold over Jesus, he has no hold over us. We have learned and know that Jesus loves the Father, we have learned and know that Jesus was obedient unto death so that the world could see that God the Father does love us and that by faith in the sacrificed death of Jesus, we are forgiven and born anew into God’s Kingdom. And we have learned and know that Jesus rose from the dead, to prove once and for all that because He lives, we shall live also.

John 14:27 NIV Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” He says.

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!

  1. Really Christians are not taught the gospel well. There is a few things that should be highlighted.
1)You are dead without the spirit, keeping a rule will not get you the spirit.
    2) The gospel is that Jesus coming and dying is to replace you from dying and so you can be forgiven by what he did simply by asking and repenting and pledging to follow God.
    3) There is some benefits like His spirit which gives you eternal life, and comfort and a level of peace you cant get otherwise knowing that even death cant hurt you.
    4) Jesus is a craftsman and is building a city for us all to live in on another planet because this one will be destroyed. there will be a new heavens and a new earth and a New Jerusalem 1500 miles cubed.
    5) God expects you to change to be more like him, to love and obey. He didn’t save you from your sins to sin and have contempt for him.
    6) there is a life of communion with Jesus now, as you live, by his spirit, and worship and prayer is part of that.
    7) You will remain stupid, dull, distant from God if you do not read your bible and pray. its like eating. If you don’t you die spiritually. You could end up losing everything, falling back, giving up by not maintaining your relationship with God. Your lamp will go out.
