Is It Lawful? — mulyalemutisya

Some very good insights in this post, check it out!

One of the greatest rivals of Jesus were the Pharisees and the Sadducees. You could spot them from afar. Their phylacteries (boxes containing Scripture verses) were so wide and they wore them on their foreheads or arms- you would think they were all infected with a chronic tumour. The tassels in their garments were so […]

  1. nothing wrong with a box on your head containing scripture. its a bent view of Deut 6:9 But a reminder to look at scripture put on your very head I would think would remind them to focus on scripture. And so while some might think that its all that need be done, most would get the symbolism. Sort of like Baptists and baptism. They might think that it takes baptism to save them and there is a portion that might even require it. But its not baptism that saves but a death to self in repentance dropping the contempt toward God and the restoration of life by the spirit of Jesus seen as a resurrection to live eternal.

I am not sure there is any benefit in beating up baptists for their false theology or the box wearing Jew for theirs. There is bigger fish to fry like pointing out the scriptures lead to Jesus John 5:39

    • I don’t think the author was beating up the Jews for box wearing the Scriptures, more of an observation that outward observance does not in itself validate that the spirit of the law has been met, something that I think Jesus Himself was pointing to, much like circumcision . Thanks for your thoughts Scott, blessings!

  2. I wear shirts with a cross on them and a scripture verse under the cross. On the side of the pocket I have my name. Scott.
I generally can tell by peoples reaction if they are born again, catholic or Atheist. Because of the amount of shame the society puts on me and others for being Christian it took a bit to get used to wearing the shirt. I had to confront myself.

    Of course I have John 3:16 , 1 John 4:7-8. James 4:17, the obvious Deuteronomy 6:4-8, Romans 8:38, Matthew 6:33 John 14:6 2Timothy 3:16-17 1John 1:9 Acts 4:11-12 Revelations 3:20 Hebrews 11:6 Mark 12:29-20, Acts 4:11-12

Its killing me. I had to look through my laundry I have one more, and I cant remember what it is. Maybe its 1 Corinthians 13. Or Romans 12:1-2.
Its the second set of shirts and as my memory fades I cant remember which set is which. I memorized all those years back teaching Pioneers those verses among others.

I memorized John 3:1-17 as well, and many other verses. Someone could get saved if they did my laundry a few times. Not many people could say that. And when the guys at breakfast ask me what the verse of the day is, I get to quote it and explain it. So, it works great. Possibly better than a box. But if your Atheist friends knew you put in a different scripture in that box each day to learn, they might ask what are you memorizing today. It would be a great way to lead them back to God, “the Almighty.”

If you have some top ones to add to the list maybe I will try for 25 verses

      • Those are good ones. funny you brought up Romans 8:2 Edwin online has a different perversion of 8:1-2.. I happen to have an enlightened view of the verse. He suggests that the verse includes an addition of who walks not after the flesh ..

My view of that wonderful couple of verses is that we do not walk after the Old testament way of doing things under the law doing things by the flesh, but we walk after the spirit in the new way of doing things. And we have no condemnation because our sin debt was paid for the day we were saved. His view as that we couldn’t sin and 1 John 1:9 was for sinners not saved. He totally missed the message of 1 john. the fact that we can sin. But he was using it for a belief that we couldn’t lose our salvation by perpetual sinning and distancing ourselves from God. bit story..

Anyways those three are great . didn’t memorize the 1 John 4:4 but I should.
