Let’s See How Many Followers I Can Lose

Have you ever had some of those gnawing thoughts formulate in the back of your mind that just don’t seem to want to go away? Well I have and it is pretty well a daily occurrence as of late. So without further adieu, I’m finally going to deal with them and let the chips fall where they may. If I offend someone, believe me when I say it’s not personal, as I am NOT directing any of my observations at any one particular person. What I am talking about here primarily has to do with general observations, of which you may rightfully, agree or disagree.

1. Face Masks: The USA is still in the grips of the first wave of a deadly and escalating pandemic and some “Christian” people are actually arguing and/or complaining about wearing a face mask that is acknowledged by most medical authorities as providing a small level of protection, because it supposedly infringes on their individual rights. Last time I checked, “small” was better than nothing. What ever happened to “love your neighbour as yourself” or “It’s not all about you” or “the strong bearing the shortcoming of the weak” ? Are these just platitudes that we quote or are we not actually supposed to do them?

2. Corona Virus: 99% harmless. Right. Really glad that’s all been straightened out. Now all we have to do is convince the Doctors, nurses and front line care workers, plus those who have recovered from the Corona Virus but are still dealing with the residual after effects, so they understand, and that problem is taken off the table. I could easily give you a whole lot more but you really don’t want to go there. Unsubstantiated “truth” is NOT the same as “substantiated” truth, no matter which way you slice it or no matter whom says it. And what are those seven things that are an abomination to God again (Proverbs 6:16-19)?

3. The Coming World Order: Do you have any idea of how many different aspects of this acknowledged coming reality are currently underway? How do you spell “paranoid”? Being “aware” of a particular aspect that is possibile is one thing, identifying wearing a mask as a certified prelude to total world domination is another. And what happens if “they” successfully develop, test and approve a vaccine for the Corona Virus? Will a chip be inserted along with the vaccine? Last time I checked, “conjecture” was not the same thing as an established irrefutable fact. Anyone ever hear of the term “wait for it”?

4. Spreading Disinformation/Misinformation: Is there any political party that is totally immune from committing this intention or unintentional travesty? Last time I checked, as long as humans were involved, no political party was exempt. Correct me if I am wrong but saying that “everyone” does it, does not qualify as a Christian exemption. What “standard” are professed Christian politicians supposed to adhere to? When you “demonize” the totality of all members of one particular political party and cast an illusion of “sainthood” over all members of another, do you really think you are fooling anyone, especially God? Please show me that Scripture verse again that says “the end justifies the means”.

5. Black Lives Matter: Yes they do and I understand the reasoning behind “Black Lives Matter” being preferred over “All Lives Matter” at this particular point in time, and quite candidly, it’s been a long time coming and it goes beyond ludicrous. However, injustice is injustice and it adheres to no exclusive colour. The human heart, also does not have a particular distinct colour, irrespective of the colour of our skin and until hearts are changed in individuals, no matter what colour our skin is, nothing of any significance is really going to change. That which is flesh is flesh and that which is Spirit is Spirit. Only God can change our hearts and therein is the only lasting solution. In the interim, all we are doing, if we as the Church, ignore this reality, is put a bandaid on that which requires a field dressing, and it will not stop the bleeding. I’m not against social justice but that is not the Great Commission that Jesus gave us. There is no difference between a black or white unsaved sinner other than the colour of their skin and skin colour doesn’t count at the foot of the cross.

So there we have it, I feel better already. Hope I didn’t tick too many of you off.

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!

Follow up Note: Not only did I not lose any followers but I actually gained a couple. Thought for sure it would go the other way. There’s a lot more kind people out there than you think there is. God is good.

  1. I’ll keep following you, Bruce, because I agree with you on all points. Here’s another point, if I were Dr. Fauci, Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, I would have to resign, because his boss, President Trump, keeps undercutting him by staging multiple mass rallies with masks not required (and therefore not used) and no social distancing. No national leadership for this deadly pandemic. Yes, also I have observed that some evangelical Christians have bought into this conspiracy theory paranoia.

    • Hi Tom, I’m on a roll but it could be short lived! Some pretty touchy subjects there, especially where President Trump is involved. You’ll notice I haven’t posted my address but I should be safe because the Canada/US border is closed. Five years ago I would not have believed much of what we currently see as even vaguely possible and we all know how wrong I would have been on that one. Blessings!

      • I try to stay apolitical, Bruce. I am definitely NOT a fan of the Democratic Party. I would never vote for one. That said, back in 2015, I joked that electing Trump would be like Daddy giving the keys to his Porsche to his 15-year-old. It’s been worse than I imagined. I’ve seen 11 other American presidents over the years, but never witnessed one who was this unqualified for the position. Not even close. What? Oh, that’s right. I’m trying to stay apolitical.

  2. I’m still here, Bruce, and agree with all your points. Regarding point 2/ covid is 99% harmless – tell that to all those who have lost a loved one because of the virus.

  3. I don’t know what to believe any more, but as long as there’s the slightest chance that I could pass a deadly virus to another human being, I will wear a mask when appropriate. No, it isn’t comfortable, I can’t breathe very well in it, and it may not even be healthy for me, but it isn’t about me. I’m guessing that it isn’t comfortable or healthy to be locked in a storage container, either, but in some countries that’s the price of being a Christian. If we can’t tolerate a little inconvenience to show the love of Christ, what’s going to happen when believing REALLY costs us something?

    • Hi Ann, I hear what you’re saying. Some people have medical conditions that would restrict them from wearing a mask and that obviously would qualify as a medical exception but where it is just an inconvenience or preference, I’m thinking that is a little on the short sighted side of things, especially if one is a Christian and supposed to be thinking of others. One could almost think of it as training wheels for when the hard times really come, which has to do with mind set more than anything from my perspective. Anyway, enough said (on my part), hopefully some will reconsider if they were of the resisting mind set. Thank you as always for your thoughtful comments. Blessings to you and yours.

  4. God bless you, Bruce. I think you noticed I came out with the same message on Twitter (after a great deal of hesitation). I did have three negative comments, but most, (like yours here) were positive and the post got over 200 likes. So I am beginning to think those insane people who scream at people wearing masks represent a tiny fraction of American Christians. I certainly hope so. Peace and blessings. ‘

  5. Hey, Bruce! I just shake my head. What is happening is beyond words. I am absolutely politically homeless!!! Praise God that I/we will NEVER be homeless in any way, shape or form in heaven! We will serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Worthy is the Lamb! There is a part of me that has no will or desire to vote; however, that is not an option for me. Much will happen between now and November, that I am sure of. In some ways, a quiet Trump would almost be more nerve wracking than his talking. At least when he talks you know what he is going to do or what he is thinking (totally NOT saying I am in agreement with Trump). Thank you for being you, Bruce! I have been wondering when we would get one of these posts! God is growing you and it’s a joy to be on this journey with you! Love and blessings to you and Peggy!

    • Hi Mandy, for sure we are living in stressful times and some of the decisions we have to make as Christians are difficult, to say the least. Evidently you’re getting to know me better than I thought, in that you were expecting me to post something. I’ve probably already said more than I should so I’ll leave it at that. I do thank you for your encouragement and understanding. Love in Christ and much blessings to you and yours as always.

  6. Good Afternoon.
California is stopping churches from singing because they say the droplets from singing is worse than just talking.
This is discrimination and bigotry because we can wear masks and there is social distancing going on. IF the Gov’ts who are called to govern are now asking for masks or stopping singing, they then have been negligent from day one and not up to the job.

But the fact is, we were only asked to stay in 2 weeks, then it turned in to months. Its nonsense. In fact, most of the things they should have required they did not.
For example. Face masks should have been upfront, not knowing how bad it was. then, now its less necessary if anything.
Secondly, this whole thing, the shut down wasn’t to stop the spread but to delay it enough so the Hospitals could handle it and get prepared. Trump for example got the military in to build a hospital and to build ventilators and masks.

Canada did nothing. JT our bad prime minister sent masks to China while not having a supplier in Canada. So if you are suggesting its about masks, Don’t blame the people. Blame the incompetent Gov’t.

Lots to say about the issues but this is not the issue. The issue is Communism and Gov’t low self esteem. They think that a Church has power, that it having People under their control is a danger to Gov’t control. This is a communistic fear. Democrats leaning way into Marxism are breaking constitutional law and going against Trump who says and i agree that Church is an essential service.

We the church are smarter than the Gov’t. But, we are lazy. We generally do not have hands free taps, so our bathrooms have contact surfaces that will spread disease, but so does every other public space and the Gov’t is to backward to change the things that should be done on an ongoing basis.

Long before the Catholics Most Churches use individual cups so everyone can have communion. The Catholic church only lately stopped everyone from having a drink from the cup but hasn’t let the people have a full communion for years. you get some bread they say is the actual body of Christ which its not.
Still Filipino people generally want the wafer placed in their tongue as they kneel. That sort of thing should stop.

But the big ticket problem is Gov’t doesn’t take things seriously and are trying to control people rather than be effective. When grocery store clerks serve people they should sanitize their hands between customers but they don’t. So, you might as well throw it all out the window. Someone picking their nose could affect the person at the cash and they may be sick for two weeks touching everyone.

So, Unless you are face to face with someone the mask is basically not effective I have given lists of helps and the Gov’ts are to dull to do any of it. They cant even get our manufacturing base right. We don’t even make N95 masks in Canada. Gov’t has failed us, and if possible soon enough they will force you to put one of those dog chips in your hand or forehead or you won’t be able to buy at the grocery store or own a store to sell something. God already knew this, who knew he would have known. Its called the mark of the beast. 666. computer tracking of your Identification. Either you do it their way or you cant live. That is a dictatorship, communism and part of what John the Apostle calls part of accepting the anti-christ. Obviously the vaccine will likely be just that. But the rest is coming. People are just afraid its at our door.

  8. Hi Bruce, I think we’re in the age where everyone gets offended regardless of what is said or not said. Unfortunately. For the record, I’m not offended. A few weeks ago, I might have been, but now, not so much. 🙂

I do have a problem with masks, but mainly because I have asthma and after several minutes of having to wear one, I start having shortness of breath. So, I avoid wearing one if I can, and for the most part it’s not a problem. I have been working from home since all this started and rarely go anywhere unless I absolutely have to.

I live in Alaska where we have a governor who hasn’t been like many of those in the lower 48 restricting their states beyond reason, but there are still some mandates in place that we’re supposed to adhere to. In a way, it’s nice to be somewhat isolated from the rest of the country because we’re not having a lot of problems like they are having down south. But I’m not naive enough to believe that it can’t or won’t happen here.

As for Trump, eh, I voted for him. I’ve never been sold on how “great” he is, but if Clinton had gotten elected instead, the U.S. would have long been utterly destroyed a couple years ago. It was just put off a bit longer is all. I do have a problem with the way so many Christians believe he’s going to make America greater than it’s ever been…even while the country is self-destructing before our eyes and he’s really not doing anything about it. To me, he’s just playing the other side of the game. Got to foment that hate and divide this country even more, doncha know.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to ramble on. I guess I have a lot of things that have been simmering below the surface that I need to get out as well. Feel free to keep on offending people. When you do, you tend to find out exactly where they stand. 🙂

    • Hi Nina, Alaska, I didn’t know that. It’s so beautiful up there. The masks, I understand, medical needs are legitimate, no argument there at all. I also understand about Clinton, no argument there either. Actually I agree with everything you say, I just hate to see something that can be so good, destroyed from within. I sincerely thank you for your understanding and patience with me. May God’s grace, peace and blessings be poured upon you and yours.

  9. Not offended by anything you wrote, my friend, but… In the U.S., the presidential race is, sadly, voting for the lesser of two evils. The president nominates federal judges, including the Supreme Court. There is so much more. If you were American, how would you have voted?

    • Hi Bill, I was really hoping you wouldn’t ask me that! Obviously abortion, the expansion of LBGTQ rights and the erosion of religious liberties are all super major concerns but on the other side of the coin, the destruction from within of the USA due to lack of balanced leadership, outstanding race inequalities and apparent non accountability at highest levels of government, are also major concerns. I’m thinking that if some resemblance of stability doesn’t soon return, there will only be a shell left of what used to be and from a purely humanistic perspective, we know that China and Russia would have no qualms about expanding their empires . There are so many huge holes in the boat right now that need plugging but I’m thinking that the biggest one to stop has to be getting the country to return to some resemblance of logical order, so that other short falls can be addressed later. This current denial of the reality and consequences of not adequately addressing the corona virus, by Trump, is just outright insanity. I think I would have to go with the Democrats, to keep the boat in the water, before it sinks because from what I can see, Trump doesn’t give one hoot about the boat as long as he gets to command it for his last fling. That’s the way that I see it from a humanistic perspective. From a Christian perspective, unless God intervenes, neither the Democrats or the Republicans can change the hearts of all the Americans who have abandoned God, because far too many on both sides are now up to their arm pits with the need to obtain and keep power and control, at any cost. A coming world order? Yes, I think the ground work is currently underway and it’s not going to be pretty. Looking forward to your response on this one for sure. God’s grace and blessings to you and yours Bill. – Bruce

      • I never have defeated Trump’s rhetoric or tweets… I look only at actions. Trump got the states everything they needed to battle the pandemic. But, I hate politics! They’re all rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. I will say that, because I am pro-life, I could Never vote Democrat. It seems that Israel is all alone in the last days. I have always wondered why they were alone, where’s America?

One day we will all meet, having left all this behind. Love in Christ. – Bruce
