Matthew 10:29-32 NIV “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.”
There are days when in spite of all that we have experienced or come to know and trust, that we feel alone and isolated. Not knowing what is going to happen next, especially when we’re facing an illness or financial hardship or a host of other things that can leave us with unanswered questions can be difficult. It happens to everyone that I am aware of, even to those who trust in Jesus Christ.
Yet Jesus tells us not to be afraid, to trust Him, rest in Him and to be confident that His will for us will be accomplished. The Apostle Peter also tells us to cast all of our concerns or anxiety to Him, because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7 NIV) Jesus knows exactly what we’re feeling, He’s been there. He knows our weaknesses, He knows our fears. If our heavenly Father cares about the little sparrows, which He does, Jesus tells us that He cares much more for us and He will provide and care for us. And Jesus promises us that He will ensure that our fears, our anxieties, are heard by the Father, because we are in Him and He is in us. Because of our faith and trust in Jesus, for who He is and what He has done for us, we are under His care and that is a beautiful thing.
The feeling of helplessness, not being able to control things which are unfolding before us, can leave us looking for immediate answers to bring things back under our control, where our choices determine what happens next, and the situation that is causing us concern is alleviated. But in reality, whether we realize it or not, we are literally helpless. We had no say in being here. We had no say in who our parents are or where we were born. We had no say in what color our skin is or what language we initially speak and normally we have no say in when this gift of life ends. At best, we have partial control and even that is subject to many circumstances that can again, be beyond our control.
Jesus knows all these things. He walked on this earth in the body that we wear. He knows our needs, He knows our fears. I take comfort in that because in reality, He knows me better than I know myself. And I am His and He is mine. And Jesus, the Son of the living God, gave His life for us so that His life, that He has, lives in us and we have His promise and the promise of our heavenly Father, that through faith in Jesus, we have everlasting life. And He proved that to us with His own resurrection, which the Apostles and hundreds of early Christians witnessed with their own eyes. And that is our hope, because we’ve only seen and experienced part of the reality yet. Now we only know in part.
I don’t know what hardship you’re facing today, I don’t know what uncertainty is causing you to worry or have anxiety, as I myself sometimes do or have, but I do know this. He is able and He is willing and because of Jesus, our prayers and concerns go directly to the Father, who cares for us with a love that we can seldom comprehend. Trust in Him and rest in Him. That is where the big picture of reality is truly realized.
Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!
Worthy is the lamb! Love this: ” He is able and He is willing and because of Jesus, our prayers and concerns go directly to the Father, who cares for us with a love that we can seldom comprehend. Trust in Him and rest in Him. That is where the big picture of reality is truly realized.”
Amen!

That verse is why I put up a bird feeder by the back deck. To remind me that God knows and cares. Even in the storms the birds visit and go about their business. I should as well. Trust and rest in Him. That’s really a big deal in God’s world. A fun concept don’t you think?

Fun and practical reminder! Baby hummingbirds are so very small! I snicker at the little nano critters that science makes and then think of what God does with those totally self sufficient little birds. And because all life comes from God, He is aware when one falls. Amazing!

I think these times are actually doing us a service by teaching us what has always been true. In my book “SPARROWS” ( 😀 !) one of the characters – a successful businessman who works in the World Trade Center – realizes on 9-11 “Mankind’s dirty little secret – that every one of us is utterly, helplessly dependent. It’s just that most of the time we are allowed to walk around believing that we aren’t.”

Sometimes we just have to step out there and pray there is something underfoot to hold us.
