You may have heard someone mention that the Church they attend is Progressive. Curious what it may imply? Alisa Childers provides a quick overview on the 5 signs to be looking for.
Several years ago, my husband and I began attending a local Evangelical, non-denominational church, and we loved it. We cherished the sense of community we found among the loving and authentic people we met there, and the intelligent, “outside the box” pastor who led our flock with thought-provoking and insightful sermons. Sadly, the church started going off the rails theologically, and after about a year and a half, we made the difficult decision to leave. Today that church is a self-titled “Progressive Christian Community.”

Isn’t that the truth! This is one of my favourite sayings about discernment “Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.”

Any church that doesn’t get its people into the bible and doesn’t preach Matthew 5,6,7, and the 10 commandments and 1,2,3John 1,2 Peter and James etc.. Romans 1 and Corinthians 6 etc.. And doesn’t grasp being born again in John 3 relating it to original sin and contempt for God, will become milquetoast. it takes a few people with some money some power and control issues some sins and some cover up and Poof they are hanging a rainbow over the door and it aint about Noah.
If your Minster has a stroke if you mention Leviticus 18:22 Romans 1:27 and Corinthians 6:9 and Ephesians 5:3 You know you are in trouble

Thanks, Bruce. There are these “progressive” emergent churches, and then there are the “seeker/marketing-model” churches that are on their way to becoming “progressive” churches.

Oh I know, I can’t comprehend how someone can REALLY read their Bible and then come up with these “customized” perceptions that fits into them calling the shots. I actually ran into a group of people once who believed that they didn’t sin. It’s like running into someone who says they don’t breath. You hardly know where to start when you run into that. Blessings Tom!

Thanks for highlighting this issue. I’m increasing more concerned about what is going on in our churches and less the “culture as a whole”.
Blessings from mighty King Jesus. God is with you.

My pleasure Michael. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen so much division, and it runs so deep. It’s always been not good but the magnitude on the whole spectrum is seemingly unhinged. Satan is having a field day. Hard to comprehend sometimes. Blessing brother.
