Peace Be Unto You

John 16:33 NASB
“These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”  Emphasis is mine.

I am reminded that when Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, three times He spoke the words “Peace be unto you” (John 20:19-29). Remember these words, because they were the words that Jesus chose to greet His disciples with, when they were at their lowest. They had just seen Jesus crucified and die. They knew He was buried and was no longer among the living. But they were wrong.

Sometimes the weight of evil that we see and that we hear, can bring us down, but what we see and what we hear, is not the final reality. Jesus told us that because He lives, we also will live (John 14:19 ). Our peace, our existence, our joy, is truly in Him

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth and the life . . .” (John 14:6). He meant it!

Be mindful, be thankful, and let us praise His Holy Name!

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!

  1. Right on, Brother Bruce! The final reality is what God says it is. I’m thinking about the time Jesus was in the sinking boat with His disciples. The seasoned fishermen thought they were about to die, but then Jesus calmed the storm. As one of my favorite pastors said, “Truth was asleep in the back of the boat.” Henry Blackaby

  2. Good one, Bruce! As I’ll post about Wednesday, my favorite band the Byrds sang protest songs for peace back in the 1960s, but the band members were constantly at each other’s throats. No genuine peace in this fallen world outside of Jesus Christ.
