Nothing Else Matters – Revisited

risen

Jaroslav Jan Pelikan (December 17, 1923 – May 13, 2006) was a scholar of the history of Christianity, Christian theology and medieval intellectual history at Yale.

This time of year I’m always reminded of this quote by Jaroslav Pelikan

“If Christ is risen, nothing else matters. And if Christ is not risen – nothing else matters.”

1 Corinthians 15:13-21 NIV “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.  For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.  If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.” Emphasis is mine.

Worthy is the Lamb! Blessings!

  1. What a great Quote Bruce.
I personally have a long prayer list for friends and loved ones who are pursuing their own importance. Jesus is like a vitamin you take when you think it’s needed to so many.

    • Hi Gary, yes, it kind of does clear the air doesn’t it? And I hear you on the “take when needed” mindset. Short sightedness has long been humanities strong suit. Blessings brother!
